Maryland Urban Farm Relief Grant

Designed to support urban farms

The Maryland Urban Farmer Relief Grant has been established by MARBIDCO using funds provided through the Maryland RELIEF Act to assist with the costs associated with the commercial production of locally grown food products, including expenses related to spring planting, equipment purchases, etc.

Overview

The Maryland Urban Farmer Relief Grant is designed to assist with the costs associated with the commercial production of locally grown food products, including expenses related to spring planting, equipment purchases, etc. Applicants may apply for a grant of $500, which will be awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Eligible applicants are “commercial urban farmers”, which can include sole proprietorships, partnerships, corporations, and LLCs, with the principal operator(s) having an agricultural product growing operation located in a Maryland incorporated city or town or within the territory bounded by the Baltimore or Washington beltways. Farmers with small growing operations under two acres in size in densely populated areas located near incorporated cities or towns may also be eligible, as determined by MARBIDCO.

A “commercial urban farm” is a farm that has generated at least $1,000 in agricultural product sales in a calendar year. (“Agricultural products” include produce, livestock or horticultural products that are grown on the applicant’s farm property.) All applicants must demonstrate that they were commercial urban farmers in 2020. Evidence of eligibility can include the submission of a federal tax return, farmers market sales records, detailed financial records or other evidence acceptable to MARBIDCO.
